Home Sessions
We absolutely love being able to capture your family in you home! Whether it is a newborn session, family or pets, capturing the space your adore is so important!
There are a few things we want you to know about home sessions:
Please clean your home! You don’t need to wipe down every surface, but decluttering is key. Take a few moments and look around, what do you not want showing? Everything from cellphone cords to boxes, papers to shoes! We do our best to point out items you may not want showing, but it helps the session go smoothly if we can focus on posing and capturing photos rather than the extra stuff in the background. Declutter as much as possible.
We want as MUCH natural light as possible. Open up your shades, and consider the time of day where your home as a lot of light. We never want to use a flash if we don’t have to. Consider this when booking a home session. If you have an old home without many windows, you’ll find most home session examples that you see and love are in homes with lots of natural light. A home session may not be what you are looking for if your house doesn’t have natural light. Older homes are especially difficult for this, and we may need to play you primarily near windows to get the light we need for beautiful photos!
Keep pets in mind. If you have hyperactive dogs, maybe have a friend available to help with your pets. If you don’t want pets in photos, place them in a room where they won’t be seen during the session.
Home sessions are pretty natural and candid. Although we do pose our clients, the feel of a home session is usually as if I was a fly on your wall capturing you in your element.
Consider if you want an activity captured. For example baking cookies, playing with a favorite toy, or eating popcorn on the couch!
We do not bring props to home sessions. Kids, newborns etc. we use the items found in your home as a way to capture your family!
If we are capturing a child under age 3, consider cleaning your wood floors ahead of time to get rid of extra spots and water marks that will show up if we are on the ground with your child.
